Recognize if You're Properly Hydrated

Because how much water you should drink and the symptoms of dehydration vary from person to person, it's important to recognize dehydration signs beyond just feeling thirsty. Luckily, there are some easy ways to tell if you're dehydrated. Pinching a patch of skin to check its elasticity is a good way to test for dehydration. Although this isn't an exact science, healthy skin should bounce back to normal in a couple of seconds; that's a good sign that you're properly hydrated.

Another way to check: Hop on the scale.

"The most accurate way to determine hydration status is to weigh yourself before and after a workout to see if you lose body water," Williams said. If you lost 0.45 kilograms, she adds, that's approximately 0.47 litres of fluid you need to get back into you.

The colour of your urine can also let you know if you're dehydrated. If your urine is a dark yellow or an amber shade, your'e dehydrated. If it's pale yellow, you're properly hydrated.

Hydrate Ahead of Time

I's important to take precautionary measures to prevent dehydration.

Prehydration is an effective strategy.

"If you have a long flight, a big race coming up or intend to spend your day outside, drink extra water in the hours before," Williams said.

Hydration is extremly important for your health. By being proactive, you can recognize the effects of dehydration on the body to get ahead of it, and stay feeling at your best, every single day.
