4. Use of your Personal Information
Abbott will use your Personal Information to provide you our product and services, respond to your queries, provide an efficient customer service, for audits, trainings, quality improvements and to fulfill our legal obligations, ensure security and to communicate with you. Our mobile-optimized sites and apps may use your location to provide you location-based shopping features.
We may aggregate and/or de-identify data about customers and site visitors and use it to conduct research, data analysis and to help us develop new products and enhance our Abbott Services.
We also identify usage trends, recognize new or past visitors and their preferences to determine the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns, personalize content and offer you the opportunity to receive notifications and participate in surveys about Abbott’s products or services, our special promotions, unless Abbott receives written notice of your intention to opt-out of receiving all Abbott direct marketing communications. We may also process your health and medical information to manage clinical trials, conducting research, providing patient support programs, distributing and marketing our products, managing compassionate use and expanded access programs and tracking adverse event reports.
Abbott may provide access to or share your Personal Information with our vendors, contractors, business , service partners, or other third parties (collectively, “Service Providers”), with whom Abbott contracts to carry out business activities on its behalf (e.g., customer support services, delivery services, online payment services and fraud detection services, cloud, or hosting providers, marketing activities, where applicable, etc.).
We may share your Personal Information with third parties such as healthcare practitioners, as a part of any treatment provided to you, or with whom Abbott is jointly marketing a product or service or jointly conducting a program or activity, where per our practice, we will transparently notify you of such sharing, during program registrations.
Where we share your Personal Information with our trusted Service Providers, to assist us with our business activities, we employ contractual or other reasonable measures to ensure that they will keep your Personal Information confidential and secure, and that your Personal Information will be used only to perform activities per Abbott’s instructions, including its erasure or return upon termination of their services.
Abbott will not sell or license your Personal Information to third parties except in connection with the sale or transfer of one of its product lines or divisions, so that the buyer can continue to perform the processing of personal data for the purposes above mentioned, where applicable. Abbott may also be required to disclose your Personal Information to respond to authorized information requests from government authorities or law enforcement agencies or to legal advisers and auditors when required by law and is legally permitted.

The Personal Information you provide to us or we obtain as a result of your use of the Abbott services may be transferred between Abbott affiliates, or processed, transferred, stored or disclosed to recipients in jurisdictions outside your home country. Such transfers are undertaken for the purposes described above. Your Personal Information may be transferred to the United States where Abbott is headquartered or to jurisdictions around the world, that may not provide the same level of data protection as your home country.

We use cookies, tracking pixels, web beacons and other technologies (collectively, “Tools”) to enhance user experience, analyze usage, and deliver personalized content, to provide you with more relevant information based on your interests, analyze trends and otherwise administer and improve our Abbott Services. You can manage your cookie preferences via your browser settings to either accept all or essential cookies, reject cookies, or to notify you each time a cookie is sent to your browser. Choices you make are both browser and device specific.
Here are some of the types of information collected when visiting Abbott Websites:
Log data: When you use Abbott websites and apps, our servers automatically record information (“log data”), including information that your browser /mobile app sends whenever you visit a website or app. This log data may include your Internet Protocol address, the address of the webpages you visited that had Abbott features, browser type and settings, the date and time of your request, how you used websites and cookie data.
Device information: In addition, we may also collect information about the device you are using to access our Abbott Services, including the type of device, operating system you are using, device settings, unique device identifiers and crash data. To learn more about what information your device may make available to us, please also check the policies of your device manufacturer or software provider.
Cookie data: Depending on how you are accessing Abbott’s online Services, we and our Service Providers may use “cookies” (a small text file sent by your computer each time you visit our sites, unique to your Abbott account or your browser) or similar technologies, to record log data. For example, we may use cookies to remember your personal preferences, such as sections of the website that you visit frequently, your user ID, or other settings so you do not have to set them up every time you visit, and we may use cookies to serve you relevant advertising tailored to your interests. We may use analytics software, which uses cookies and similar technologies to collect and analyze information about use of the Abbott Services or information regarding the use of other websites, apps and online resources and report on activities and trends.
Social media plugins and data: In addition, our websites and apps may use social media plugins that allows the social media website to share information about your activities on Abbott with other users of their social media website, to enable you to easily share information with others. Abbott does not control or is not responsible for any of the content from the social plugins and you should refer to those sites' privacy and data sharing statements, for more information.
If you choose to link your social media or other accounts to Abbott, depending on your settings or the applicable provider's privacy policies, this allows us to obtain information from those accounts (such as your friends or contacts). Please check those policies before granting us access and if you give us permission to access this information, we will use it for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
Interest Based Advertising:
We place advertisements where we think they will be most relevant to our customers. One way we do so is by allowing network advertising companies with whom we work to place their own Tools when an individual visits Abbott websites and apps. This enables the network advertising company by using such tracking technologies, to recognize individuals who have previously visited Abbott websites and apps and to serve you ads based on your web browsing activity, purchases, interests and/or other information.
Retargeting. One way in which we deliver more meaningful advertisements is through a common form of online advertising known as “retargeting” or “remarketing.” Retargeting works by placing of these cookies or other technologies on your device that may enable you to be identified across multiple websites, allowing such serving of ads on one site based on your online activities on a different, unrelated site. For example, if you look at Similac® products on an Abbott website, you may later see an advertisement for Similac® products when you visit third-party sites. To do this, Abbott or its advertising vendors may use a device ID, cookie, pixel, web beacon or similar technology placed by Abbott or our third-party vendor when you visit Abbott websites or apps or third-party websites or apps. Abbott Do Not Track Policy. Some browsers have Do Not Track (“DNT”) features that allow you to tell a website not to track you. These features are not all uniform, and some browsers may not be set up to honor such requests. Abbott honors the AdChoice DNT signals. Options you select are browser and device specific. Please be aware that limiting the ability of websites to set cookies, however, may worsen your overall user experience, and in some cases the sites will not work properly without cookies, local storage and similar technologies.
8. Data Security and Retention
Abbott stores data on secured servers and takes reasonable steps to protect Personal Information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorized access, modification or disclosure. Personal information can be accessed by a restricted number of Abbott employees. We train our employees about the importance of privacy and how to handle and manage customer data appropriately and securely. However, internet transmissions are not fully secure. Abbott will only store your Personal Information for as long as it is needed to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, subject to applicable data retention periods imposed upon Abbott by applicable law and Abbott data retention policy.
9. Children’s Data
Abbott does not knowingly collect or use any information from children (as defined under applicable regulations) or allow children to order our products, communicate with us, or use any of our online services, unless such data is provided by child’s parent or legal guardian. In accordance with your local applicable Privacy regulation, you may have certain rights to access, correct, delete your personal data, withdraw consent, and opt out of marketing Personal Information, that Abbott holds about you. We reserve the right to verify your identity with respect to any requests regarding Personal Information, to ensure that we provide the information only to authorized individual who it belongs to. If you are an authorized agent making a request on behalf of a consumer, we may require and request additional information. We reserve the right to deny your request in whole or in part, if we cannot verify your identity in adherence with relevant regulations, including to notify you of the reasons for the denial.
