A heart health episode can change the course of one’s life. For Saurabh Jhaveri, it was the beginning of a new, more mindful health journey.

An amiable person in his early 60s, Saurabh is a stockbroker by profession and enjoys working and travelling. He has never had any major health complaints, so when he started experiencing discomfort, he didn’t suspect a heart health issue.

“I was visiting my cousin, who is an orthopedic surgeon, at his home. While talking to me, he noticed that I looked uneasy,” Saurabh recalls. His cousin immediately placed his own fitness watch on Saurabh’s wrist to check his cardiac activity and it didn’t quite look okay to him. “They rushed me to the hospital for further tests.”

Sure enough, the ECG showed some abnormalities, while the angiogram confirmed that Saurabh had three arterial blockages. With the blocked artery restricting blood flow to the heart, Saurabh required immediate intervention to avoid health complications.

“The doctors carefully explained two possible treatment options: a coronary artery bypass surgery, or a angioplasty with a stent insertion,” recalls Saurabh.

Turning the Tide with a Next-Generation Stent

The prospect of undergoing an open-heart bypass surgery worried Saurabh; his family, too, shared this concern. An active and social person like Saurabh, whose day involved talking to people, couldn’t imagine anything holding him back. After a few hours of deliberation, they came to the decision that a minimally invasive stent insertion would be a safe way forward. An open conversation with the healthcare team helped Saurabh and his caregivers understand the procedure, what a stent does and how it would work, answering all the questions they had.

For the procedure the next day, Saurabh now felt more confident. Through an angioplasty, a sophisticated drug-eluting stent was placed inside Saurabh’s artery, restoring vital blood flow to his heart. The minimally invasive procedure allowed Saurabh to sail through the treatment and be fit enough to return home the very next day.

Choosing Health, at Every Step

Within a few days, Saurabh was back to his regular routine, but the sleek little device sitting in his artery wasn’t the only difference in his life…

Through the course of his recovery, Saurabh had a new-found outlook towards his overall health. “I never paid attention to what I would eat or if I was healthy. My heart condition made me aware of my health and encouraged me to make some changes to my lifestyle.” Walks are now a part of Saurabh’s daily routine; he has cut down on unhealthy food, too.

Saurabh’s test results three months after the procedure have further motivated him to make more conscious choices: “All the tests and, everything else showed normal readings,” he beams. A more aware, informed approach to wellbeing has set in, and there’s no turning back.

A Full life, a Fuller Heart

“I go out to meet friends more, and also watch movies whenever I can. I even attended my niece’s wedding in Zambia.” His enthusiasm is palpable.

Saurabh recognizes the significance of a family member’s presence of mind and the role of cardiac technology in changing the course of his life. So, when asked what he would say to others facing a similar health issue, Saurabh is quick to respond, “Keep your family close and trust your doctor. My doctor helped me understand the whole process, and I can confidently tell others there’s no reason to worry.”

Besides traveling and spending time with his loved ones, Saurabh likes keeping himself occupied with his stockbroking job.

He has no plans of retiring anytime soon.
